Summer Tea and Crochet Party

This week has been very lovely with all the sunshine and warm temperatures, which I have enjoyed every moment of! I have been very busy this week, making the most of every opportunity when I haven't been working. On quiet evenings I have been continuing on with Sunny Stripe blanket or learning new crochet patterns, here are some photos to show you how my crochet is getting on.
Today has been filled with frothy tea and coffee, coffee cake and of course, lots of crochet! My sister This Girl is... aka Lisa, has been wanting to learn how to crochet for some time and we have finally had time to do a bit of crochet tutoring. What a lovely day it has been!

We had a lovely pasta salad lunch indoors, which was followed by some teaching of basic crochet stitches. I was flattered by how much my sister greatly appreciated me taking the time to show her these stitches, and she learned them very quickly!

As we crocheted indoors, my brother-in-law Dave tinkered about in the garden and made a very rustic ghetto garden table in which we used for our 'outside tea, cake and crochet party'. Even the next door neighbour's cat tried to join in on the action. When we were outside my sister and I decided to have some fun doing little granny squares, and only having just learned the treble stitch my sister produced her very first granny square. I helped guide her through the technique by making my own granny square at the same time, to make it easier for guiding on what to do. Lisa made the blue square shown in the picture and I think it is excellent for her first one.

There will be future crochet tutoring sessions to be had, as she wants to learn more and she said she will show me how to make jam (I hope its bramble jam!). Crafting is very relaxing and such a fun hobby to share and spend time doing it with someone else.

Far Behind

It is now May, and my crochet mojo seems to be lacking again. I have only had the concentration for one project, which is my sisters sunny stripe blanket.

Even though i only have one project on the go, it is still way behind! Today is being dedicated to making this blanket at least 12 inches longer!

Colour Lovers - 3KCBWday1

I've decided to participate in the 3rd Annual Knitting and Crochet Blog Week, and today's topic is all about colour.
Colour is one of our greatest expressions of ourselves when we choose to knit or crochet, so how do you choose what colours you buy and crochet or knit with. Have a look through your stash and see if there is a predominance of one colour. Do the same with your finished projects - do they match? Do you love a rainbow of bright hues, or more subdued tones. How much attention do you pay to the original colour that a garment is knit in when you see a pattern? Tell readers about your love or confusion over colour.
I definitely like a variety of colours, and usually go for bright rainbow colours compared to dark neutral ones. I think my love of Attic24 brought me to love rainbow colours in crocheting. Most of my projects are a made with varying patterns of these colours, as I like them to be bright a bold.
Personally I think of all the colours, red will always be my favourite colour...with purple and peacock/teal blue coming in as seconds and thirds. I think red is such a lovely warm vibrant colour, and even through my phases of wearing black clothes I thought red was an awesome colour. It's even the colour my hair is most of the time too!
Overall, I think my stash will show you that I am fairly colourful nowadays, even with the odd dark and neutral colours here and there. There aren't any colours that I have aversions to and I am willing to use any colour if it is required in my projects.

I think that summarises my thoughts on colour.

Being Busy

Things are still being busy for me, and I have only had time to focus on my sister's Sunny Stripe blanket.

Most of my week has been spent working or figuring out how my new phone works. I got an Android phone as I was getting fed up with my outdated blackberry. I have instantly fell in love with this new piece of technology I have as it enables me to do so many different things without using a computer!

To end my post I am going to share some of my photos from this week!

Can you tell I love instagram?! It is amazing.

Hope you are all keeping well fellow bloggers.

Crochet-Less

I have been on night shift for the past two weeks, and I haven't done much crocheting at all. Not enough to be worth sharing photos.

However I have been busy reading on my kindle and you can see this from my Goodreads page! I am also learning to drive! My first lesson was last week, and my instructor took me onto the main road straight away as I already knew how to change gears and use the clutch.
Currently I am doing one lesson a week, every Monday and I find it exciting yet very nerve-racking. I started learning to drive as I have been told several times that because I am in the science industry, a driving license will open many doors/windows for me. My goal is to have my license by the end of 2012, I am determined to have it!
Although my lesson tomorrow has been moved to Tuesday, as I am going to a speech/talk event by my favourite author Jodi Picoult in Glasgow tomorrow evening. I may steal my friend's idea and get her to sign the back of my kindle if she will be signing after the event! So excited!

I am thankful to be on dayshift for the next two weeks, so hopefully I will get back into crocheting as I will have more time for it. So watch out for more photographs of Sunny Stripe (And all those squares I am supposed to be doing!). I may even get to enjoy the sunshine a little bit more as well, since I won't be sleeping lots during it too.

Hope you are all taking care!

Sunny Stripe WIP

My sister's blanket has been on hold while I was waiting for more wool, so that I could continue further with it. The parcel arrived on the day of my birthday, which made it a delightful unexpected present! This means that my main activities have been crocheting Sunny Stripe and reading my kindle. It is amazing to be able to do my two favourite hobbies at once, and I will never tire of making the blanket!
Speaking of books, I would like to know what your favourite book/author/genre is, as I find it interesting knowing what kind of books people find appealing. I have read a lot of books, however I have realised a majority of my recent reads have been paranormal/dark fantasy. Which has led me to ask others for suggestions in different genres, and my lovely sister has recommended a few classic novels to read!
Also, I want to say thank you to the people for my birthday wishes at the weekend as it really made my day when I got to read your comments to my birthday post.

Happy Birthday To Me!

Just a little post to celebrate my 25 years of living so far! It is the one time of year that makes me reflect back on my previous years, and where I have come to now!
Although I am really excited that I finally got one of these, a kindle, as I have been wanting one for a while now.  Not that I have had the chance to read it so far as my weekend is being very busy!!
I also bought myself the turquoise blue spotty dress as a birthday treat as well, I really know how to spoil myself don't I? I loved both colours that much that my fiancé's brother is buying me the red spotty one!! I don't usually go for dresses like these as I am very hippy and all bum, in a good way but I prefer to hide my hips and bum underneath a 50's tea party styled dress usually.
I also celebrated last night, pre-birthday session with lovely cocktails and a japanese meal! I got a big cocktail from TGI Fridays, it was called a Gremlin and it tasted like fruity sherbet! Yummy!
Today my Dad is visiting my house for the afternoon, and he is bring my sister Mary-Anne, her fiancé Alan and my newest wee nephew Zak! Tonight I am going out with Andy's family for some birthday drinks (where I get to wear my red spotty dress!). Tomorrow I am meeting up with my sister Lisa, and she is taking me for a proper tea lunch at a place called Butterfly and the Pig...they do amazing High Afternoon Teas!!

I am definitely really having a good birthday weekend and its barely even started :D
